Apprise Reader to Manage and Search RSS Feeds

by James M. Helms on August 12, 2008

There are a variety of aggregators that can be used to view and organize RSS feed lists. With a wide variety of aggregators available I’m always on the lookout for something that offers a little more than what is normally offered. Apprise is a lightweight desktop aggregator that has an easy to use interface and some great functionality. You can import/export data files, read and sort data feeds, search feeds by keyword, and post links directly to Twitter and Aim from within the aggregator.

I am sold on the simplicity of this Apprise and the few but powerful options that I am able to manipulate. Under general preferences I can choose how often I want the feeds to be refreshed, its done automatically, I know that the feeds in Apprise are refreshed every hour. Every hour I am able to have ready access to data from people that I have chosen to follow. This greatly reduces the time that it takes to sift through mountains of data on the internet.

In the Apprise reader you are able to view the text from the feed. If you want to view the actual blog you click on “site” and the page loads within the reader. Copy and paste is in the past when using Apprise now you highlight, drag, and drop the content into your email to send your information fast.

You can quickly toggle between feeds and individual authors to find data from people of interest. You have the option of arranging the data in a variety of ways for easy scanning. The search box is a great way to quickly filter the feeds by keyword, its fast and from what I can tell very accurate. The data that is searched is only the newest content so you can eliminate past information that you may have previously accessed.

The Apprise aggregator is one more tool that you can use to get access to information fast. This desk top aggregator is still in beta, its open source and free. You can see for yourself by downloading Apprise for free at Apprisereader.com.
