Information Obesity, that is the “condition” that AideRSS is assisting the online populace with. It’s not a secret, too much data can be really frustrating, filtering data in various ways is the best way to optimally inform yourself. There are a variety of tools that allow you to filter data. The type, source, and use of the data determine how the data needs to be filtered. At the end of the day you just need to be more effective in your ability to process a growing amount of information.
Aide RSS filters data according to a variety of metrics, they mention on their site that “we do some math and checking around the web to learn about [the] feed, its statistics, and people’s reaction to it”. The resultant output is data that is ranked by date and “PostRank”. It’s a simple concept, take all of your RSS feeds, import them into AideRSS and hit enter. The RSS feeds are ranked and sorted by “PostRank” and the date of posting within the AideRSS screen.
By reading the top performing posts from around the web you can eliminate the need to filter all of the content in your readers. You get the cream of the feeds, and you save even more time. Like mentioned previously AideRSS isn’t going to work for every RSS feed that you have. Many times you may need to scan all of the posts, such as when you are conducting reputation management, even the lower ranked posts can hurt your online reputation. Regardless, AideRSS simplifies the task of staying up to date on a regular basis.
There are a variety of ways that you can use AideRSS. You can import and export OPML files for fast transfers between aggregators; this makes transferring groups of RSS files simple. You can add feeds to your blog or website using one of the widgets provided on the AideRSS site. Lastly, you can simply check a site to see the “value” of the blog and the blog behavior over time.
One point to make is that AideRSS simplifies the process of data monitoring and works very well. What it doesn’t do is eliminate the need to stay on top of new and emerging blogs that still offer data but lack the readership and thus the social engagement. Another point to make is about “PostRank”, if you are a “details” oriented person you may want more information about it, after all its a major portion of their ranking criteria. AideRSS doesn’t divulge too many details about how it works but according to their spin off site PostRank.com, they say that it is a “scoring system based on social engagement”.
I will be using AideRSS in the future, its a great tool for cutting down on thousands of RSS feeds that I work with on a weekly basis. Does AideRSS seem like a good solution to you? Any questions? let me know.
