Four Fast and Simple Platforms to Post and Publish Everything

by James M. Helms on August 25, 2008

Life can get pretty busy, keeping up with a blog and other social media sites can be quite daunting. There are so many things to do and all too often not enough time. There are a lot of sites that offer a variety of different services (blogs, microblogs, image galleries, bookmarking services…) wouldn’t it be nice to have one site for everything? There are a few sites that allow you to streamline your online publishing activites. You can stream images, text, music/podcasts, video’s, links, and more using one of these services.

These kinds of sites are known as “Tumblelog’s” they can also be called content streams, life streams, tlog’s and more. “Tumbleogs” allow you to collect and post your content onto a blog like page but it’s much simpler to keep up to date. You gather and post content from a variety of sites that you frequent. Your life stream allows your friends and family to keep up to date with what you find and have an interest in. Within each of the following services there are a variety of features and benefits that are unique. Read on and find the site that is the best fit for you.

Soup allows you to publish, collect, and share many forms of multimedia that you enjoy. Their site allows you to create and join groups, build up a social network, and customize your pages so that they have a look and feel that you can identify with. Soup allows you take your Tumblelog and make it really personal. You can run your soup at a unique URL i.e. “yourdomain.com”

Posterous allows you to gather and post your content on a unique “yourname.posterous.com” url. Rather than logging in and working with a web interface or dashboard you can post content to your Posterous by simple sending an email. Simply attach any kind of a file (documents, powerpoints, mp3’s, images, video links…) to your email and send it to post@posterous.com. You don’t even need to setup an account, just send the email. Posterous automatically creates the account based on your name.

Tumblr the “scrapbook” of tumbleogs. With Tumblr you can create and post in seconds. There are a variety of themes to choose from or you self host and create your own site and edit your own HTML. You can create your stream quickly and join or create private and public groups, even update your tumbleog from your mobile phone.

Swurl allows you to create your lifestream and interact with other users easily. Swurl is adding new sites that it supports every week. Rather than needing to post your content Swurl makes sharing effortless and automatically. The site allows you to create, read, and watch conversations from within Swirl, you can quickly find your friends and get in the middle of the conversation fast.

You don’t have to dedicate your life (or a significant portion of it) to a website or blog. You can leverage one of these Tumbleog’s to keep your world updated. Your time is valuable and you already have a lot going on. A Tumbleog may be a good choice for you to stay in touch and still have plenty of time for everything else that you have going on.
