Generate Images Using Text at TypoGenerator

by James M. Helms on August 6, 2008

Randomly generated posters using a combination of text, typeface, and images can create some interesting visual design. Using typoGenerator is pretty simple, enter textual content of your choice and hit “generate” if you like what you see, you’re done. If you like a portion of what you see save that aspect of the image and generate again.

This web based tool is pretty neat. I spent about 15 minutes viewing quite a few different images, two of which I saved. Many of the generated images were not visually appealing, rather they were ugly, incoherent, or otherwise distasteful.

The generator is of course automatic, the creations random, so you just have to sift through the results until you find something you like. The image shown is one of two that were “keepers”. Some of you may not like my generated art, feel free to critique it below. Break out a bottle of inexpensive wine, put on your snobby snob hats and say hmmm.

If you are looking for a little inspiration, or perhaps an auto-generated mashup of text, colors, and images typoGenerator may be a place to start. The one shortcoming is speed, it can take a few seconds to generate an image.

This may be a great exercise in patience, and you get a neat image to use on your site or blog. Be warned, some of the generated images may have copyrighted materials (i.e. logo’s of site’s or companies) so you will have to use discretion when using the generated images.
