You may have noticed that there are quite a few websites and lots of information on the internet. Finding good sites and good information on your own is only one way to do it. Another way is to leverage the knowledge and experience of other people. Getting the advice of your coworkers can drain them, they may even shoot back and tell you to “Google it”. Wisia.us is a site that compiles “the wisdom of crowds” to provide users with a list of answers that are weighed against the community. You can also contribute to the site and earn wisdom points. The site is in private beta, the details to receive 1 of 30 Today’s Best Tools access codes can be found below.
There are sites that offer Q&A, a good example is Yahoo Answers. With Yahoo answers one answer is 
selected as a favorite and the emphasis is on the quality of textual response and the answer’s ability to sell their answer over the other people who answer. Wisia is different, rather than one answer Wisia coordinates multiple answers, sites, or responses and allows the community to vote for the answers that they like best. The individual who asks the question gets initial feedback through a list of responses (or unique site links), over time the community decides which site, or bit of knowledge is preferred by the group.
I can see Wisia doing well for a couple different reasons. First of all they have a rating system that gives people wisdom points. A point based system keeps people engaged, for Wisia to be successful they need lots of community engagement. Second of all they offer value to the visitor, in the short time that I have been on the site I have been keyed in to several resources around the web that I didn’t know existed before.
Leveraging the insight and expierience of other people is a powerful way to find the information and sites that will benefit you in your endeavors. Finding information on the web can be difficult if you don’t know where to start looking. For many people Wisia will be a place to gain valuable insight from people, as for a “tool” it fits our description, leverage it. Wisia is currently in private beta, thirty readers of the Today’s Best Tools blog can get in on the private beta by using “besttools” in the invitation code box.
