Leveraging the Social Feed Sharing Tool Toluu

by James M. Helms on August 29, 2008

Social bookmarking sites like Delicious and Ma.gnolia allow the user to create lists of sites in order to (potentially) revisit the sites in the future. Aggregated data from millions of social bookmarker’s enable users to search the bookmarks and receive social recommendations. There is always room for more web based tools and applications, right? Toluu, a feed sharing tool, is a way to submit your feeds and find individuals with common interests.

How Does Toluu Work?

After logging in you have the ability to either upload or enter the URL of the feed that you want to share. You also have the ability to use a bookmarklet for easy importing of feeds. Once your feeds are online they are readily available for others to find. Once Toluu has a general understanding of the kinds of feeds you are interested in they are able to recommend matches of other Toluu users that have a similar interest.

You can view your matches, search their feeds, and add them to your Toluu account. Once you are ready you can export your feed list as an OPML file or add the feed to major feed readers. The user interface is simple to use and offers a lot of value.

Social Feed Sharing Value

Finding users with common interests is a great way to access relevant information that you may not have known about. You may follow the major sites within an industry but there are many thousands (perhaps millions) of feeds from smaller, less established sites that can be a great source of information too. The nice thing about feeds is the ability to sift data quickly, even search the data, to find relevant results about a topic that you are interested in.

Connecting with people that share common interests is valuable. Connecting with people with different interests can often times be even more valuable. If you don’t reach beyond your circle of influence you become insulated to ideas and understandings that do not encompass a bigger picture. Reaching out with Toluu you are able to find people with a percentage of commonality. Likewise you can see the information that they are accessing beyond what you have in common and hopefully get introduced to new ideas and different perspectives.

How to Join

To join you have to be invited, when you read this I may (or may not) have invites left. Just ask for one at james@todaysbesttools.com. Have you used Toluu before? What have been your experiences? What did I miss talking about? Let me know below.
