Simplify Your Documentation With ScreenSteps

by James M. Helms on July 14, 2008

Have you ever dreaded the task of capturing the visual data for a documentation project? The Screen Steps tool allows you to quickly create and edit images from your screen. After you capture the images you can quickly access the document to edit the title and descriptions next to the captured image.

If you want to document a work process quickly without having to mess with screen video software, editing, and voice over, here is a tool that you need to check out. ScreenSteps was developed by Blue Mango Learning Systems and drastically reduces documentation time.

Rather than limiting dissemination of the documentation you have optional ways of saving the file. After creating your document you can quickly save it as a PDF or HTML with the click of a button. Likewise you can create, upload and post the document within a blog in just a few clicks. ScreenSteps says it best, watch the short video below to see how easy it is.

Although the intended purpose is to quickly create visual documentation of a process. The images save as PNG’s and can be accessed and used individually. Screen Steps runs on a Mac OS X v. 10.3 or later and both Windows Vista and XP.

I didn’t run into any problems installing the software for a free 30 day trial. I ran into some problems (my own fault by the way) installing the pro version but the customer service was super fast and really helpful. During the process of troubleshooting and fixing the install problem we used ScreenSteps as PDF documents, it was a breeze following the visual instructions and fixing the issue.
