Social networking is a great way to reach out across the internet and meet people. There are a many platforms that you can use to network with people on a general level or on a niche level. Keeping up with all of the social networking platforms can be really tough, everyone doesn’t use every platform.
Ping.fm is a cool online site that allows you to submit content to a variety of platforms with just one post.If you like leveraging the power of social networking but don’t necessarily have the time to keep up with everything, this is a great option.
After getting set up on ping.fm you can link to a variety of platforms quickly and easily. The site supports many of the major networking sites found accross the web. As an analogy ping.fm is like RSS in that it syndicates your content. Rather than limiting your content to RSS aggragators you are able to hyper extend your content across the web onto a variety of platforms.
It’s true that every site has a variety of different posting limitations. Status updates on platforms limit your ability to post blogs. Realizing this the creators of ping.fm built in editable settings that allow you to choose how you want your information displayed (status, microblog, blog). Posting can extend beyond the user interface, rather than accessing the ping.fm site every time you want to post you can also send a message via your email provider.
Social Networking relies on communication. Nobody likes a one way conversation where one person just
talks and never listens. You cannot build a social network by just using ping.fm, ping.fm isn’t an aggregator of information. You can use it if you want to synidicate content accross a wide range of networks quickly, its a useful tool that seems to be growing quite fast. The graph shows compete data for approximate site visits over the last few months. It will be interesting to see how fast they grow and if they can scale their platform.
The site is currently in beta but if you would like the access code just use “dreamofping” to “get in on the beta action”.
