Zoho is a provider of web based applications for your document management needs. I first heard of and visited Zoho a couple years ago, back when I was a strapping young chap fresh out of the Army. Back then the site was a simple web based document management system. There was a word processor, spreadsheet, and a rival to power point called “Zoho Show”. The tools were new and definitely web 2.0. You could create and work collaboratively on documents remotely from wherever individual team members were. There were quite a few bugs, the pages would freeze up a little too often, and you would occasionally get booted off the system.
What Zoho Looks Like Today
Zoho has increased its offerings in the last couple of years and offers a range of products. Document management is just the beginning. Today they offer both individual and business based solutions. From project management to web conferencing Zoho offers a wide range of great SAAS products. The two newest application are business invoicing and recruitment management software. Many of the services that Zoho offers are free, some of the services you have to subscribe to. If you’re looking for solutions for your companies needs, Zoho should be towards the top of your list.
Zoho as Compared to Other Document Management Services
True, there are other options for document management, many of them don’t cost anything. Zoho document management is a free we based service (no downloads)…they have additional solutions for you to tap into as well. Another player is Google docs, they offer collaborative features and its easy to access though other Google accounts. Zoho offers many more services in addition to document management.
If you are looking for a downloadable desktop option you could also consider using Open Office, their freely downloadable software directly competes with Microsoft office. Open office doesn’t offer the collaborative features of Zoho. Microsoft has some recent offerings too…but this blog isn’t about Microsoft and I haven’t fully researched their new offerings yet.
Final Thoughts
All of the tools and services surrounding web based services are still evolving. We live in some really exciting times here on the web, there is so much happening with Software As A Service (SAAS) and other areas of the web 2.0 environment. There is quite a bit of competition in this space, which helps bump up everyone’s offerings.
I’m really liking the diversity of services that Zoho is offering and I wanted to share Zoho with you today. I’m a big proponent of competing services and Zoho is growing competitor in the space. What are your thoughts? Do you have any favorites or know of new and emmerging sites that you are looking at? Let us know.
